Under 18s Match Reports
Sunday 28th October
Ferndale 3 Meadow Park 0
This sunday 28th October we beat Meadow Park 3-0 in the league. This was
sweet revenge as they had knocked us out of the cup two weeks earlier 2-1
after extra time.
We picked up where we finished last week with a very committed hard
working skillfull display. Every player gave 100% commitment and looked
comfortable in possession. We went 1-0 up midway through the first half
when the skipper Aaron Dickens headed in Ed Ruscoes pinpoint cross. We
continued to press in the first half but could not increase the lead. The
second half continued in much the same vein with us controlling the game
due to lots of hard work all over the pitch. It was great to see people
giving options all over the pitch and to hear people talking and shouting
for the ball.Again midway through the half we went two nil up with a great
individual effort from James Rae- this was a just reward for the
tremendous amount of endeavour put in by him over the past three weeks.
The third goal sealed the game shortly after. Lovely controlled play by
Tom Southall who poked a beautiful inviting ball out to Matt Dandy who
crossed perfectly for Chris Grindley to convert expertly with a header
into the far corner- not bad for a goalkeeper!!! Are you sure you don't
want to play up front Chris?
A very pleasing and encoraging performance- Well done lads. Next week we
play the leaders Perrywoods at home and it will be interesting to see if
we can continue our current revival- I am sure we can, if we continue to
work as hard as we have in the last two games.

Ferndale 2-Littleton Juniors 1
With regards to the match we played on Sunday we won 2-1 against a very
good Littleton Juniors side.We went 1-0 down after about ten minutes to
agoal that should never have been as it went out before being cut back for
a tap in. We were guilty of not playing to the whistle. We somehow
survived to come in at half time 1-0 down. We got a break when the referee
blew for half time on 40 minutes (we should have played for 45)with their
centre forward bearing down on goal with just our goalkeeper to beat- the
opposition were not very happy!!!We came out with a different attitude in
the second half not allowing our opponents any time on the ball and
everyone working incredibly hard as a team - we actually looked like we
believed we could win and duly scored two goals through Sean Penrose to
complete a great come back.Well done lads the effort was fantastic-
Believe in yourselves!!
SUNDAY 4TH NOVEMBER 2007
FERNDALE FLYERS 1 PERRYWOODS AFC 1
A very entertaining game between two evenly matched sides. A great deal of
endeavour and no little skill on display by both sides.
Perrywoods are currently top of the table and it gave us an opportunity to
see how we had progressed over the last month. We took the lead after
twenty minutes from a corner- the ball came in and Zak Price headed
towards goal - it went straight to James Spragg on the six yard line who
expertly headed it into the corner. We then started to control the game
and had a goal dis-allowed for offside that would have put us two nil up-
it was finished very well by James Spragg beating his man and rounding the
goalkeeper.
The second half started in much the same way that the first half finished
with us looking largely in control. With the game looking won and ten
minutes to go Perrywoods broke from their box down the right hand side and
after evading a couple of tackles their player chipped it over Chris
Grindley and into the net to equalise. This seemed to give Perrywoods a
lift and they seemed to up their game in the last ten minutes to put us
under a lot of preesure that we stood up to very well.Again the teamwork
and shear hard work ethic was a joy to watch.Man of the match was Aaron
Dickens. Well done lads- another great game to watch and one I think we
were a shade unlucky not to win against a good side.
Man of the match- Zak Price
SUNDAY 11TH NOVEMBER 2007
ENVILLE 1 FERNDALE FLYERS 1
Due to our draw against Perrywoods Enville had gone to the top of the
league- they had only so far dropped one point and had beaten us 5-0 at
home in our third game of the season. We therefore expected and got a very
tough competitive game.Due to injuries etc we only had twelve fit players
and therefore hoped we had no injuries. We started very brightly and within
the first twenty minutes Sam Floy had almost scored after good work in
their box, James Spragg had rattled the post with a shot and Matt Dandy
had missed an open goal with a header from a corner- heading practice this
week Matt!!
It has been symtamatic of our season so far that we seem to concede wonder
goals when we are controlling games and on 30 minutes it happened again.
The referee gave Enville a free kick ( I am not really too sure why but
never mind)Their player promptly stepped up and drilled it into the top of
our net- unbelievable!Agreat goal and John Barrington did well to even get
a hand to it- even though he seemed to blame himself for it- John, I do
not think anyone would have saved it. Enville are a very physical team but
it was great to see us match them for this and not be intimidated. After
the goal we continued to create chances and were threrfore disappointed to
go in 1-0 down. It was great to see the determination amongst the lads to
get the goal back and go on and win the game- it is something I have not
really seen before and is an indication of how far we have come this
season. We decided to push Matt Dandy up front alongside James Spraag and
use his pace to get in behind their back four.It worked! Zak won the ball
and fed Matt Dandy- once he had got goalside of his marker there was no
way they were going to catch him. He cut in to the edge of the box and as
the goalkeeper came out he chipped it into the far corner- a great finish
and totally deserved. We felt we could now go on and win the game.We then
introduced Michael Hyde into the game using our only substituion and as
luck would have it Dan Hammond then injured his ankle and had to leave the
pitch. This meant we had to play the last seventeen minutes with ten
men.The effort put in by everyone including one world class save by John
Barrington meant we hung on for a point.I thought we were going to snatch
a winner at the death but Ed Ruscoe could not quite reach a cross by James
Spragg and Micheal Hyde could not get enough direction on his header.I
cannot praise everyone enough today- it was a great performance and I am
convinced that if we had kept eleven players on the field we would have
won the game and beaten a good side.
Man of the match- Zak Price
