Droitwich Spa Terriers 0 - 5 Ferndale Youth

Having lost the last game against Droitwich the Youth arrived at this away fixture full determination spurred on by recent results and performances. Both teams battled the bitter weather conditions with bitterly cold temperatures and driving rain. Youth had the better of the play from the start, soon resulting in the the youth taking the lead through a low shot by Megan Garbett . The score stayed 0-1 until half time.

Second half started with the rain abaiting slightly and the Youth took the game by the scuff of the neck with 4 more goals. 2 by Ella Skura and 2 by Georgia Eaton, making her debut on the scoresheet for the club, thrilling not only Georgia but the whole team who couldnt wait to congratulate her. The score line could have been greater had Megan Potter's 2 shots on goal hadn't been saved by the keeper, but her effotrs deserving of a special mention as her effort was second to non. Full time 0-5 to the youth

The girl of the game trophy went to Georgia Eaton in recognition for her first and second goals for the club, in a game in which both teams battled in the conditions, but remained sporting to the end. Yet another improvement. Well done girls keep up the good work.

Ferndale Youth 2- 0 Kinver Colts

Another cold Saturday morning saw both teams up for it from the start. Despite plenty of effort, and both teams creating chances, the 1st half Finished 0-0.

The second half began with both teams ready for the battle that was about to unfold. Stirred by the half time team talk Ferndale made the break , a long run down the left wing by Ella Skura followed by a shot across goal, saved by the keeper but rebounding to the quickly approaching Megan Potter who sidefooted it into the net making it 1-0. Ferndale regained possession of the ball at the restart and with two quick passes they set Ella free down the left again. This time Ella picked out a pass for Megan Garbett who powered her shot at the goal, and despite the keeper getting a hand to it flew into the net. Final score 2-0.

Rhiannon Gower again stepped into the breach when the normal keeper Charliegh was not fit enough to play today and had a quiet game and congratulations to Megan Potter on her first league goal for the club. The girl of the game trophy on this occasion went to Chloe O'donnell for her solid as a rock performance in defence.

Another win for the Youth, keep up the good work and well done girls.

 Ferndale Youth 2 - 1 Redditch United

The start of the new year saw the Youth at home to the so far undefeated Redditch Girls. This was an eagerly awaited game being the first for 3 weeks due to the Christmas period. Redditch arrived in an attacking mood, starting on the attack with a few good efforts on goal but keeper Charliegh Lowe was more than capable of stopping them. Jessica Homan started in a new roll as a girl to girl marker on their best player resulting in her being nullified. However against the run of play Redditch made a break down the middle, a few missed tackles and the ball went into the net under the keeper 1-0 Redditch. A spirited fightback by Youth resulted in a goal for Georgia Eaton, a rebounded, lobbed shot 3 mins before halftime. The first half finished at 1-1.

The second half saw the Youth come out determined to get another goal. Using the same tactics as the first half the game saw Megan Garbett in fine form making some surging runs down the wing. On 40 mins the effort provided by the girls reaped rewards with a second goal for Georgia Eaton with a lovely tucked shot through the keepers legs making the score 2-1. The game saw a few more efforts on goal by both the Youth and Redditch (again safely saved by Charliegh) finishing with a final score of 2-1.

Another fine team performance including an exceptional committed performance and marking by Jessica Homan which won her the Girl of the Game trophy.

Another win and now a positive goal difference seals the day. Well done again girls.

Ferndale Flyer 0 - 0 Ferndale Youth

This was an eagerly anticipated 3rd match between Flyers and Youth with both having previously won 1 game each.

Youth started the match without regular defender Chloe o'Donnell following a shoulder injury which may keep her out for 4 wks. A reshuffle of defence saw Jess Homan drafted into the defensive position.

Both teams started at a frantic pace with both teams getting in good positions, with 50/50 play. but no real goal scoring opportunities arising with halftime arriving with a score of 0-0.

The second half began much in the same vain but saw a shift in play. The Youth were defending more against the Flyers attack. Some solid defending and excellent keeping denied the Flyers of the chance and goal they desperately wanted. Unfortunately 5 Minutes away from full time, Jess's fantastic game in defence came to an abrupt end when she was injured and carried of the pitch with a worrying ankle injury. This was promtly followed when Captain Georgia Lambert made a last ditch tackle appearing from nowhere to prevent a last minute winner and keeping the final score at 0-0.

A good performance by both teams in an excellent example for Girls Football with credit going also to both sets of supporters who applauded both teams for there efforts throughout the game. The Youth girl of the game trophy went to Megan Potter for her commitment in both training and her team play today. Another good effort by the girls and the points are increasing in an excellent first season. WELL DONE .

Ron Handy Memorial Shield ( Cup ) Match

Ferndale Youth 2 - 0 Kinver Colts

The team's first ever cup game saw Ferndale down to a bare 7 with striker Georgia Eaton not available due to an ear infection and Chloe still out with injury. The first half began slowly but the action was soon with Ferndale more than Kinver. Plenty of good interplay between Megan Garbett and Ella Skura soon conformed into a goal as Megan burst clear down the wing and made a powerfull shot straight at the goal, which the Kinver keeper had no chance of stopping 1-0 to the Youth. More attacks followed, led by the effective Rhiannon Gower in midfield which produced chances on goal but no reward, resulting in a half time score of 1-0.

Straight from the start of the second half the ball was fed through to Megan Potter to shoot but there not enough power in the shot to concern their keeper. 5 Minutes into the second half saw a through ball fall to Ella who ran towards the goal and shot into the corner of the net increasing the Youth's lead. This was followed by another rampant run down the right by Ella producing a great shot which the keeper pushed onto the crossbar. Kinver's no.10 Rhea was a pain for us all match but the Youth defence controlled her and nulified any attack's they had. The game then fizzled out with no real chances to Kinver in the final minutes of the game which finished 2-0.

Another fantastic performance by the girls making it a close decision between Rhiannon Gower and Megan Garbett for girl of the game. Coach Hayley making the final decision, and for her goal and penetrating runs down the wing, it went on this occasion to Megan Garbett A great all round performance today, especially considering there were no subs available. Well done again girls.

Ferndale Youth 2 - 4 Bromsgrove Town

Today saw the return of Chloe Odonnell earlier than anticipated folowing her recent shoulder injury seeing the full squad for today's encounter with Bromsgrove. Following the thrilling 0-0 draw last game today's match was eagerly anticipated by both teams.

A quick start by Ferndale saw them take the lead with 5 mins on the clock, following a long run by Megan Garbett which took her past 3 players and saw her calmly planted the ball into the corner of the net. Another couple of breaks saw the ball fed through to Georgia Eaton who chased the ball but with the wind behind it she couldn't latch onto it,and beat the intimidated keeper. After 22 mins Bromsgrove made a break and reached their number 9 who somehow shot through Charleigh Lowe's legs to deflect the ball in off the side post. Half Time Score 1-1

The second half began with Bromsgrove now having the advantage of the wind behind them and playing the better passing game. Ferndale were expending to much energy chasing the ball down but two lapses in defence let Bromsgrove in for 2 more, virtualy identical goals. Ferndale created a couple of unsuccessful attacks from the kick off ,before a clash between Ella Skura and a Bromsgrove defender brought a delay to the game. Fortunately both players were able to walk from the pitch. Then with 14 mins to go Georgia Eaton's persistance and increasing confidence paid off and she scored a great goal bringing the score back to 2-3. Ferndale threw caution into the wind trying to get the equaliser, but a quick breakout by Bromsgrove saw them take advantage of a hesitate Ferndale defense to bring the final score to 2-4.

On reflection Bromsgrove deserved this win through slick passing & sharpnesss in front of goal during the second half. Girl of the Game was Georgia Lambert who stood out in defence, by being her usual resiliant self. On the whole a good performance by Ferndale but another lesson has been learnt by the girls on their steep learning curve this season. Well done again girls.

Ferndale Youth 0 - 1 Gornal Colts

With no league game this week a friendly was arranged with Gornal Colts U11. Playing in The Stourbridge league Gornal were unknown opponents and this was a good indicator of the standard of both leagues and the progress of the team.Ferndale began on the front foot with Megan Garbett and Megan Potter up front and the competitive Rhiannon Gower in midfield. Some good runs by Megan G were in evidence but nothing came to fruition. After making some substitutions, there were a lot more efforts on goal but the Gornal keeper saved them quite comfortably. Gornal played some neat passing football and were a credit to their manager as they battled really hard with no quarter given seeing a halftime score at 0-0.

After the break Gornal came out on the offensive and the Youth defence seemed to be having the ball more than our forwards. This was in evidence with 3 runs out of defence by Chloe O'Donnell which she is now doing on a more regular basis with increasing confidence. A quick break down the left by Gornal ended with a goal after 3 tackles were missed and the ball shot into the net giving Charleigh Lowe no chance making the score 0-1. A spirited fight back by Ferndale saw more efforts on the goal but no joy. Final score 0-1.

A very good game between 2 equally matched teams. Many thanks to Rob for bringing his girls to play us at Mostyn. Girl of the game went to Chloe O'Donnell for her all round general play and effort at training. Well done girls keep up the good work.
