Double Header

1st game

Ferndale Flyers 1 v 0 Newtown Sports Juniors

    Ben

With the sun shining flyers went into the 1st game of this double header (25 mins e/w) against a 10 man Newtown at a fast pace. With some good passing football being played Flyers took the lead after 10 mins with Ben breaking away to neatly put the ball in the back of the net, 1-0 Flyers. The remainder of the half continued in the same vein with Flyers controlling play. 2nd half consisted of Newtown picking up their game and Flyers stepping off the gas with not much incident to talk about apart from Ollie producing a great save from a thundering Newtown shot. It appeared to me that both teams seemed to have the 2nd game come on their minds. Final score 1-0 to Flyers.

Man of match: Mozza – yet another excellent performance, solid and confident, led the defence brilliantly, (as practised in training).

2nd game

Newtown Sports Juniors 1 v 4 Ferndale Flyers

  Ben 2, Chris, Mitch

With 3 points in the bag from the 1st game & Newtown only having 10 players Flyers new that the opposition would start to tire at some point in this match. But to their credit the Newtown players started the game strongly and the Flyers had to battle to win some possession. With both teams creating chances but flyers still not playing at a high tempo, Newtown were still in the game. But after 20 mins up popped Ben again to send Flyers in to the halftime interval 1-0 up.

Half time talk was all about playing at a much higher pace and to get our normal flowing football going. It was pleasing to see that this was taken literally with the Flyers playing some good passing football with great movement. Chris made it 2-0 after 35 mins after running on to a superb cross from Ben, 5 mins later Mitch made it 3-0 after muscling through a crowd of players to stab the ball home. Again to their credit Newtown were still making a game of it (Ryan Coop quote) and got their rewards after picking up play in their own half attacking the right wing, moving the ball into the box to slot home. 3-1 Flyers. With just a few mins left the Ball was fed through to Ben, who picked up play on the right of the 18yrd box & beat the keeper with a low drive into the corner of the net. Final Score 4-1 to Flyers.

Man of match – Ben – for his work rate and finishing.

This was a good game today with both sides working hard in the warm weather conditions. We played great bunch of players today who are a credit to themselves and their manager Mick, well done.

  Ferndale Flyers 0 v 4 Suffolk Rangers

Flyers entertained their cup final opponents today, with everyone anticipating a close game and apart from the score line this was actually still the case. As usual the opening exchanges were fast & furious with both side going close. However Suffolk were to take the lead on 8mins after some neat work. 10 mins later Suffolk went 2-0 up after hammering home a loose ball.

On 20 mins the flyers keeper was removed from play with Kieran taking the gloves. Flyers dug deep for the remainder of the half playing some neat football with sam coming close from 18yrds only to see a Suffolk defender rise like a salmon to head off the line. 2-0 half time.

Both teams were playing some great football with the game going from end to end, but it was Suffolk who were to grab 2 more goals in the middle of the half.

There was not too much difference between the 2 sides to day but it has to be said that Suffolk had the edge up front and with their movement. We meet again in the league next week!!

Man of match- Kieran Bell- showed courage to don the gloves after 20 mins and did a great job in difficult circumstances.

  Ferndale Flyers 2 v 4 Suffolk

Rich, Mitch

Flyers entertained their cup final opponents for the 2nd week in a row today. The game started at the usual fast pace with Flyers having the bulk of early possession. But on 9 mins, Sam suffered a bad injury after going up for a header & landing awkwardly, this resulting in a broken wrist & a trip to the hospital. We all wish him a speedy recovery.

Once the game restarted Flyers were understandably off the pace, which Suffolk took advantage of to take a 2-0 lead. This seemed to fire the Flyers up & saw us have the lions share of the remainder of the half, 8 mins before the break flyers forced a goal back with rich prodding the ball home from close range. 2-1 to Suffolk at half time.

For the first 15 mins of the 2nd half Flyers soaked up a lot of pressure with Suffolk looking unlikely to score another, Kieran then made his save of the match by keeping out a rasping low drive which had come through a crowded box. Flyers had good chances to score another but it was Suffolk who were to stretch their lead on 60 mins and again on 70 mins to make it 4-1. Flyers changed to a 4-4-2 formation and took the game back at Suffolk. Andy made a strong run into the box and with a Suffolk arm holding him back the ref awarded a penalty, which Mitch calmly slotted home. Final score 4-2 to Suffolk.

Man of match- Kieran Bell – another fine performance today, well done.

League Fixture

 Ferndale Flyers 7 v 3 Goodrest Juniors

    Chris3, Ben2, Rich, Mitch

Flyers travelled over to Perdiswell for this midweek fixture, with no ref allocated the Flyers manager ended up taking the whistle (top performance).

The 1st half was pretty much even without the Flyers really getting their act together; Chris opened the scoring with a fine header from a super cross from Ben. Goodrest were to equalise midway through the half and the score remained 1-1 at half time.

Orders were given during the half time break & the 2nd half was to see some of the best passing football Flyers had put together all year. But this was after Goodrest took the lead. Mitch fired back soon after with a cracking 30 yarder flying over the keepers head. With Flyers dominating the score soon reached 6-2 with 10 mins remaining. Goodrest scored their 3rd after a long ball forward but Flyers soon made it 7-2 with a few minutes remaining. Final score 7-2 to Flyers.

Well done boys – great 2nd half performance.

Man of match- Andy Morgan – good hardworking performance, played at pace.
