Ferndale Youth Girls U12 0 Penn Colt Girls U12 5

Ferndale were at home to top of the league Penn Colts, this was going to be a difficult game for Ferndale, from the start Penn had a lot of possession and played a lot of attacking football, it took the home team 15 minutes to wake up and settle down, unfortunately by this time they were 3 goals down.

Ferndale started to close down the Penn attack, which then resulted in Penn playing the long ball over the top which resulted in another goal.

Ferndale started brightly in the second half and played much more football in the Penn half with strong runs from Ellie and Abbie which troubled the Penn defence.

Ferndale started too slowly in this game and were punished by the Penn attack, we need to be focussed and alert from the start and throughout the 50 minutes of the game, but I cannot fault the commitment from the girls.

Well done to Darren and the Penn Girls

Friendly

Burlish U12 Girls 2 Ferndale Youth Girls 3

With the late cancellation of the league game, a friendly match was arranged with Burlish.

Ferndale started strongly with Abbie Walters, Laura Brennan and Ellie Johnson linking up well in midfield and putting a lot of pressure on the home defence, which resulted in Abbie scoring 2 goals in the first half.

Burlish came back into the match in the second half, and the game became a more even contest, both teams started to create chances and with Ferndale not taking there opportunities on goal, Burlish levelled the score with 5 minutes to go.

Ferndale never gave up in this game and Abbie Walters scored her hatrick with 2 minutes to go.

Well done to all the Ferndale Girls on a great performance, and thanks to Jes and the Burlish Girls for an entertaining match.

Many thanks,

1st Round Cup Match

Ferndale Youth U12 Girls 0 Kinver Colts U12 Girls 1

Ferndale knew this was going to be a difficult and physical cup tie against Kinver Colts and the game really lived up to this. Both teams started strongly and contested for every ball, the game was played at a frantic pace with shots on goal from both teams. Jodie Fox kept the game to 0 – 0 at half time.

Ferndale again started strongly in the second half with Charlotte Silvester holding the ball well in attack, the game looked like it was heading towards to extra time and penalties, when a moment of hesitation in the Ferndale defence let in Kinver to score the only goal of the game.

Well played to the girls of Ferndale, lets keep this performance up for the remainder of the season.

Friendly 11 Aside

Ferndale Youth U 12 Girls 2 Burlish U12 Girls 5

Having not played a league game for 4 weeks and with three girls who had not played a competitive league match this season Ferndale entertained Burlish in this 11 aside fixture.

Burlish started strongly and were pressurising the Ferndale defence on a number of occasions and with some strong finishing were 4 .0 up at half time.

Ferndale never gave up in the second half and were challenging for every ball and this pressure paid off with Harriet and Abbie pulling 2 goals back for Ferndale.

Credit must go to the Ferndale girls for there strong second half performance.

Worcester City Wanderers U12 Girls 9 Ferndale Youth U12 Girls 1

This was a disappointing game for Ferndale, especially after all there hard work they had put into there previous games. Ferndale started well and kept Worcester in there own half, but this soon changed and Worcester were just to strong in attack, a consolation goal was scored by Abbie Walters for Ferndale.

Ferndale Youth U12 Girls 2 Burlish Olympic U12 Girls 1

A much improved performance by Ferndale this week. This was a close game with both teams playing attacking football. Ferndale were the first to score with a goal from Abbie Walters in the first half. Burlish came out strongly in the second half and put Ferndale under pressure with numerous corners, but with the excellent goal keeping from Jodie Fox they were unable to score. Burlish did equalise with a shot from outside the penalty area. This made the game interesting for the last 15 minutes as both teams were out to win, when Abbie Walters scored her second goal from outside the area to make it 2 – 1 to Ferndale.

Ferndale Youth 1 v 4 Bromsgrove Town.

This was the penultimate game of a difficult season , with Ferndale hosting 3rd in the league Bromsgrove Town.

Bromsgrove started the game on the attack, and within 2 minutes were 1 goal up. With it looking like it could be a big defeat, this was the wake up call the girls needed. Realising how difficult this game was going to be to win & stop the opposition scoring, the girls raised their game with the defence giving a second to none performance, and even catching Bromsgrove on the break getting a few attacks on goal. Bromsgrove No. 9 proved to be an extremely fast player, but with Elyse Harper keeping up & foiling her runs down the line proved fruitless.Gemma Ratcliffe & Rachel Birch, formed a solid defence with Jodie Fox making great saves when anything managed to get through. With Elyse's rapid work rate causing her to tire, the wings were swapped and Ellie Johnson took over the task, and with Laura Brennan's solid centre midfield performance the Half time score was 0-1.

Harriet Simpson & Abbie Walters, started the second half, allowing Elyse & Charlotte Silvester to rest. The second half was always going to be tough, with all girls giving 100% in the first half, but Bromsgrove were also tiring. However their quick passing & speed of attack the second and third goals quickly followed. Ferndale refused to give up and their determination was rewarded with a goal for Harriet Simpson scored, winding herself in the process, being replaced by Charlotte, and Elyse took the place of the tiring Ellie. Ferndale continued the pressure and even a frantic scramble in the goal mouth, Ferndale could not increase their tally. Rested, Ellie came back on to take over from Laura, allowing her to rest after her good, solid game. Bromsgrove continued to be handful with their speed, and with the Ferndale girls tiring, they managed the 4th & final goal of the game in a final attack. Final score 1-4

With every girl giving 100% the girls should be proud of their display, despite the score line. Girls of the game went to Elyse Harper, but could have gone to any one of the other 8 girls.
